Maximum control for fine airbrush work

Createx Wicked Detail Colors are the detail specialists within the Wicked system. They were developed for airbrush artists, illustrators, and custom painters who are looking for a paint that atomizes cleanly, offers precise control, and works on far more than just paper or fabric.

For details, glazes, and controlled transitions

Compared to regular Wicked Colors, Wicked Detail Colors are more transparent, less viscous, and formulated for better flow at lower pressures. This makes them particularly suitable for fine lines, soft shading, glazes, color gradients, and precise detail work.

This is exactly where their strength lies: they combine the fine control of a detail paint with the robustness of the Wicked system. This is a clear advantage for custom painting, illustration, model making, helmet designs, tank painting, or other demanding airbrush projects.

Fine control

Ideal for lines, details, glazes, shading, and controlled color build-ups.

High yield

Targeted reduction allows for building up very thin, clean layers of color.

Multi-surface

Suitable for many surfaces such as paper, canvas, wood, plastic, and hard-surface projects.

Clear coat ready

Can be finished with suitable automotive clear coat systems.

Efficient, flexible, and selectively reducible

The special strength of Wicked Detail Colors lies in their efficiency and thinability. The colors work straight out of the bottle with nozzle systems around 0.3 / 0.35 mm, but can be very specifically adapted to smaller nozzle sizes, lower operating pressures, and finer techniques with Createx 4021 Reducer.

Those who want to work even more transparently can reduce the paint further or extend it with Transparent Base. This creates clean, thin layers of color that allow for particularly controlled implementation of details, shading, and multi-stage color build-ups.

Practical tip

For finer nozzle sizes and more precise detail work, reduction with 4021 Reducer is recommended. Depending on the setup, a reduction of approx. 10–30% is typically sensible for Wicked Colors. After mixing, the paint should ideally rest for a few minutes to improve flow and atomization.

Robust Wicked system for custom painting and hard surfaces

Despite their detail performance, Wicked Detail Colors remain a true part of the robust Wicked family. Createx relies on lightfast pigments and a resin system designed for indoor and outdoor applications.

This makes the paints suitable not only for classic airbrush work on paper or canvas, but also for more demanding applications on plastic, wood, hard surfaces, and automotive projects. This is particularly important in custom painting, where many surfaces are non-absorbent and good adhesion as well as a clean system structure are crucial.

Proper application for hard surfaces and automotive

For non-absorbent surfaces, helmet designs, tanks, model making, plastic parts, or other hard-surface projects, Wicked Detail Colors work exceptionally well within the matching Createx system. Depending on the application, 4030 Balancing Clear or 4050 UVLS Clear can be used as system partners to improve adhesion, flow, and durability.

The colors are compatible with common primers, paints, and clear coat systems. For automotive builds, Createx recommends a standard 2K clear coat as a final finish. The paint should flash off sufficiently and dry completely before clear coating.

Matte finish for better control

Another advantage of Wicked Detail Colors is their matte drying behavior. This makes it easier to judge tonal values, contrasts, and transitions while working compared to highly glossy surfaces. This is a real advantage for illustrations, portraits, real-fire techniques, shading, and fine transitions.

Technical quick overview

  • Paint system: water-based airbrush paint from the Createx Wicked system
  • Character: more transparent and finely tuned than regular Wicked Colors
  • Finish: dries matte
  • Nozzle size: usable straight from the bottle from approx. 0.35 mm; smaller nozzles with reducer
  • Reducer: 4021 Reducer for better flow and finer atomization
  • System partners: 4004 Transparent Base, 4030 Balancing Clear, 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear
  • Surfaces: paper, canvas, wood, plastic, hard surface, and automotive applications
  • Sealing: with suitable clear coat systems; in the automotive sector with 2K urethane clear coat

Drying and post-processing

At approx. 21 °C and 50% humidity, Wicked Detail Colors can be processed further after a short time. In practice, drying always depends on layer thickness, reduction, humidity, temperature, and air circulation.

Recoatable after a short flash-off time, depending on paint application
Tape-safe approx. 45–60 minutes, depending on the environment
Clear coat ready approx. 1–4 hours, depending on booth, air circulation, and layer build-up
Full cure approx. 48 hours

Important note on drying

The paint should not be force-dried with direct heat. Moving air across the surface is better. Sufficient drying time should be planned, especially before clear coating, so that the paint build-up remains stable.

Available container sizes

Wicked Detail Colors are available as standard in several container sizes. This makes them suitable for both individual projects and regular workshop and custom painting applications.

  • 60 ml – ideal for testing, individual projects, and smaller jobs
  • 480 ml – sensible for regular use and larger projects
  • 940 ml – for workshop needs and frequently used colors
  • 3.7 l – large container for professional users and high consumption

We are happy to order container sizes larger than 60 ml upon request. If you regularly work with certain shades, asking for larger quantities is especially worthwhile.

For whom are Wicked Detail Colors the right choice?

If you are looking for an airbrush paint that offers fine control, can be cleanly reduced, and processed professionally, Createx Wicked Detail Colors are a strong choice. They are particularly interesting for:

  • Custom painters
  • Airbrush artists
  • Illustrators
  • Helmet, tank, and hard-surface projects
